When you think Super Bowl snacks, you of course think of things like dips, burgers, chips, and beer. Chocolate covered strawberries might seem a little out of the ordinary, but hey, who cares… they’re sooo delicious and everyone loves them. Plus you always need a little something sweet to satisfy all your guests that have a little (or in my case, big) sweet-tooth! Now you can order something like this from a store or online shop for as much as $45 for just a dozen… or you can make twice as many on your own for a small fraction of that cost; they taste just as good (if not better because you have control over the quality of the ingredients you use) and you can take pride in the fact that you made something so cool on your own.

These strawberries definitely look pretty fancy and like they would be pretty time consuming, but in actuality they are so quick and simple and they’re done and ready to enjoy in three easy steps. The first step is to melt the chocolate. I am a chocoholic and definitely prefer to use dark chocolate chips because I really enjoy dark chocolate, but feel free to use semi-sweet chocolate chips if you like those better. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and cook in 30 second increments, stirring in between. You want to stop microwaving when there are still a few chunks left, as they will continue to melt after you take them out of the microwave and stir a little more. You do not want to over-microwave the chocolate… I remember one time our mom was making these for our brothers birthday and she microwaved the chocolate for wayyy too long and was left with a big bowl of chunky chocolate mess (we still ate it of course haha, but it sure wasn’t pretty).

The next step is to dip the strawberries in the chocolate; hold the strawberries by the green stem and gently dip into the chocolate. Hold the strawberries over the bowl for a few seconds to let any excess chocolate drip off before placing on a baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper to cool. Next, melt the white chocolate using the same method you used to melt the dark chocolate. Let it cool in the bowl for a few minutes so it’s easier to handle before pouring into a piping or regular plastic sandwich bag. Cut a fairly small hole in the corner of the bag, you want it to be small so your football laces nice and defined. Now, I like to practice piping out the laces on a plate before actually doing it on the strawberries just to get in the groove of doing it; pipe one long line going vertically down the strawberry then pipe three smaller lines going horizontally across. And voila! You have football strawberries all ready for your Super Bowl party! Enjoy this little bit of sweetness among all the other foods in your Super Bowl spread!
