Frozen ‘Pupsicle’ Dog Treats

On these hot summer days it’s not only great for us to make delicious food, drinks, and desserts to keep us cool and hydrated, but it’s also so great to make some special summer treats for our dogs! I love to bake Molly all sorts of homemade dog treats throughout the year, but when summer comes around baking isn’t always ideal, so I make her frozen dog treats… or PUPSICLES! We love to spend as much time as possible outside during the summer and Molly absolutely loves to cool down with these tasty frozen treats. I make two different varieties at once because the base ingredients are the same so it’s really simple to make them quickly. Plus your dog deserves to have some variety in flavor… they eat the same meals every single day!

The base of both these treats is plain low-fat yogurt and applesauce. Yogurt is a great source of calcium and protein for your dog and I always buy low-fat to keep Molly healthy. Also make sure that you buy yogurt that has live active bacteria (which act as probiotics) and no sugars or artificial sweeteners. Applesauce is great because most dogs love the sweet taste of it and it contains calcium, fiber, and vitamins C and K, all of which are good for your dog. Now onto the good stuff, I first make Banana and Peanut Butter Pupsicles by adding mashed banana and natural peanut butter to the yogurt and applesauce mixture. Bananas are great due to high levels of vitamin B, C, fiber, and potassium and peanut butter is loaded with antioxidants, proteins, vitamins, and quality fats…it’s healthy and gives your dog extra energy for play time!

The other Pupsicles I make are with shredded Carrots. Carrots provide amazing benefits to your dog like healthy skin and coat as well as improved vitality. When combined with the yogurt and applesauce they make the most mouth-watering (LITERALLY…my floor is covered in Molly’s drool by the time I’m done making these) treat for your pup. Once your ingredients are combined, your pour the mixture in ice cube trays (I spray them with non-stick cooking spray for easy removal) and freeze for a few hours. I then pop them all out and keep them in a big air-tight container in the freezer so they’re always ready to give to Mol. I would highly recommend giving these yummy treats to your dog outside though… if they’re anything like Molly, they’ll crunch them and spit them out and pick them up several times before actually eating them!

Molly could hardly wait to get a hold of these delicious treats…but she was so good and still posed for my pictures before she enjoyed a few (outside of course)!
