Spaghetti Squash is all over the place these days and with so many recipes and uses for it, we definitely need to know how to cook it. We have tried multiple methods and they all have pretty much the same result, so we are going to teach you the quickest and easiest way using the microwave:
Step 1: Cut the spaghetti squash into quarters using a large, sharp knife (be very careful, make sure your knife is puncturing the squash before you put too much pressure on it as it can easily slip).
Step 2: Using a spoon, scoop out the seeds and stringy parts of the flesh from inside the squash, just make sure you’re not taking out the good stuff too!
Step 3: Place all four quarters of the squash flesh side down on a microwave safe baking dish (or a plate with higher edges) and add about 3-4 tablespoons of water to the bottom of the dish. Place in the microwave and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Rotate squash around and microwave for another 5 minutes. Whenever I make this, the squash is usually done at this point. You can tell by looking at it; if it’s soft to the touch and starting to string off a bit, it’s ready. If it still seems too hard, keep microwaving in 2 minute increments until its done (add more water as well if it’s all evaporated).
Step 4: Remove from microwave and let cool for a few minutes before handling. To ‘spaghetti’ the squash, use tongs to hold on to the squash with one hand, and with the other hand use a fork to scrape the flesh out of the squash; it will come out easily and look like spaghetti (hence the name!).
Step 5: Place in a bowl and use in your favorite recipe, or store in an airtight container in the fridge until you’re ready to use it (it should last about 1-2 weeks).
