Hard boiled eggs are really such a perfect food; they are cheap, easy to prepare, and there are so many uses for them; my favorite time to eat them is after the gym every day as a protein packed snack. To elevate them, I cut the eggs in half and sprinkle with a little salt and pepper. Other uses for hard boiled eggs include deviled eggs, egg salads, as additions to salads, on sandwiches, or even pickled or in potato salads. No matter the use, it’s always good to know how to make the perfect hard boiled egg.
Hard boiled eggs can sometimes be daunting if you don’t know how to make them, but in reality they are so simple and easy to make. There are just a few simple steps to take; place the eggs in a pot, fill with cold water, bring to a boil, let sit, and then cool in ice water. That’s it! So quick and easy and then you’re ready to enjoy them. I usually make a batch of 5 every Sunday evening so I have one ready to go for snack each day of the week.
In the past people had been taught to believe that eggs were not very good for us because of the cholesterol in them. However, research has consistently shown that the cholesterol you eat has very little impact on the amount of cholesterol that is in your blood. Eggs are actually exceptionally nutritious, and sometimes considered the perfect food as they have a little bit of almost every nutrient we need. Eggs are filled with so many vitamins (A, Folate, B5, B12, B2, etc.), they only have 77 calories per egg, but have 6 grams of protein, and 5 grams of healthy fats. I won’t go on and on and list the numerous health benefits of eggs, but studies have shown that eating up to 3 eggs a day is perfectly safe, so go ahead and enjoy!
*Note: I always add about a tablespoon of white vinegar to my water when making hard boiled eggs because if any of the eggs accidentally crack, it will help any escaping egg white coagulate and stop leaking out of the egg.
