I can’t believe it’s been another year and my sweet Molly is turning another year older… she is 8 years old now! You would never guess her age though, she still acts like she’s two years old – I don’t know if that’s good or bad haha. She may not always be the best behaved dog, but she is filled with so much energy and love and life and I wouldn’t change a thing about her. She is my world, my best friend, and the most amazing companion (sorry, Conor, you’re pretty great… but Mol is pretty close to being as great as you)!
(I spy a Molly dog in the background sniffing out that bacon and pb!)
Every year I make Molly a special birthday treat (check out the PETS section of our website for all her past treats) and I’m pretty sure she understands the words “Birthday Cake” now because when I mentioned to her that I was making her a birthday cake a few weeks ago she went nuts. And when the day came last weekend when I was in the kitchen making it and I said those two words again she started drooling like crazy… smart girl, those are the best words to know I think,I have the same reaction! This years birthday cake was probably one of the most simple ones I’ve made so far, but I think it may have been one of the best too, it turned out perfect!
The best part is that it’s made with regular ingredients like apples, peanut butter, and BACON. So no weird dog food aromas filling up the house. To make the cake, you combine diced apples with peanut butter, egg, and baking powder and pop it in the oven. Once it comes out you can top it with a variety of things; I made one of the cakes with peanut butter frosting and the other with coconut cream. And the best part for her – the bacon! Crumbled pieces of bacon (real, organic bacon, nothing gross or unnatural please) are what make this cake into a heavenly doggie treat! The best part is watching her (and Summit) figure out what the candles are… and even better when I blow them out and the cake was devoured, she loved it!!

- Pour into 1-2 (depending on the size) smaller ramekins (or into 2 cupcake tins).
